“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” Romans 8:28, NIV
There are no shortcuts in the process in which God has to take us through in order to mature us spiritually. There may be some acceleration due to our faithfulness of embracing the process, but definitely no shortcuts.
You might have experienced what some people call “setbacks”, but they are really “set ups”. The enemy’s intention is to “set you back” from keeping the faith, serving God, loving others, and believing in His purpose and plan for your life, etc.
But God’s intention is to “set you up” for a deeper level of intimacy and dependency, a deeper level of trust and hope, and a deeper level of self-examination and humility.
So don’t despise the trails and tribulations, because they’re part of the “process” that you must undergo in order to be polished into a useful vessel for the Lord.
